Robinho to join the Catalan giants?

Robinho has found himself in the middle of yet more speculation about his future this week. The latest rumours have him heading to Barcelona, which was previously talked about at the end of the summer.

The deal that is being discussed would be a £80 million swap which includes cash and players. Manchester City would want to get the £32 million they paid for the Brazilian, and while Barca doesn’t have the cash, they could end up sending a player to Manchester as well.

With Puyol stalling on his contracts, the media think that he might be heading to England.

Mark Hughes might have something to say about this:

“There is always speculation and noise surrounding Robinho,” Hughes said. “That has been the case since he came to the club. He is a great guy. We are not in the process of taking outstanding players out of the team.

“We want to complement the outstanding players at the club. We are looking to build, not dismantle.”

While this might convince some, it will take a lot more than words to get me to believe the Welshman. He does not seem to value the “Brazilian” style of play which is evident with the way he treated Elano who couldn’t crack the starting eleven last year despite numerous excellent performances for club and country. I would not be surprised if Robinho takes the same path away from the Eastlands.

I do not doubt that Robinho would be a great fit for the Blaugrana. He possesses immense amounts of talent and has shown he is willing to track back which will endear him to Guardiola. With Henry getting older, Robinho would be a great replacement for the Frenchman as well as being able to play as a striker like he does for Brazil. What does he have to say?

“Of course I’d enjoy playing for Barca.” he told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo. “Who wouldn’t? We could have so much fun. It would be a pleasure to play alongside Messi, my compadre Dani Alves, Xavi, (Andres) Iniesta, (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, with them all.”

“They’re a great team. I played against them and know their quality. But right now I can only do it on the PlayStation.”

For now we can only speculate, but Robinho at Barca is a scary thought – for the rest of Europe – that is.

Play Beautiful!
