Goalkeeper: Petr Cech (Chelsea)

Chelsea were able to secure top spot of their group with a 1-0 win against Porto thanks to Cech. Three fine saves in the course of the match made sure that dominance by Porto did not convert to goals.

Centre Back: Gerard Pique (Barcelona)

Pique has continued to prove this season that he is an experienced, top class defender. His goal early on set the tone for the match and his distribution from the back was consistent.

Centre Back: Dario Dainelli (Fiorentina)

Fiorentina secured second spot while dumping Liverpool out of the competition. Dainelli helped the Viola weather a constant Lyon attack and maintained a clean sheet.

Left Back: Yuri Zhirkov (Chelsea)

The Russian Ronaldinho. That is what Chelsea fans were told they were getting when Zhirkov joined the Blue’s ranks. His first Champions League start wasn’t as good as was promised but his tireless runs and tricks gave fans just a taste of what is to come.

Right Back: Dani Alves (Barcelona)

Brazilian fullbacks never disappoint and Alves is only continuing that trend. He rampaged down his wing and set up one of Barca’s goals.

Centre Midfielder: Xavi (Barcelona)

Xavi’s consistency amazes me. He is the heartbeat of Barcelona and Tuesday was no different. He orchestrated the second goal and was a virtual pinball machine in the middle of the field.

Right Midfielder: Samir Nasri (Arsenal)

Van Persie gets injured and Nasri comes back. He scored in Arsenal’s win to make it two goals in two Champions League games.

Left Midfielder: Sebastian Rudy (VfB Stuttgart)

Rudy lead the way to keep Stuttgart’s knockout dreams alive. He scored and played provider for the other goal in their 2-0 win over Rangers.

Center Forward: Marco Borriello (AC Milan)

When you beat out Inzaghi for the lone striking position you must be doing something right. Borriello has put a year of injury disappointment behind him and is leading a resurgent Milan.

Left Forward: Pedro (Barcelona)

Messi’s shoes were not too big for Pedrito as he scored his tenth goal this season. The Spaniard is making a case for a spot on Spain for the World Cup.

Right Forward: Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid)

Amongst all the expensive signings it was a three year Madridista who found the winning goal for Pellegrini’s men. Hiquain has been playing well with five goals in eight appearances this season.

Play Beautiful!
