Andrei Arshavin

One of the most versatile attacking talents in the world today, it is no wonder so many teams wanted Andrei Arshavin’s services. Arsenal were the lucky team though and signed the Russian after a prolonged time of working out work permits with the English FA.

Arshavin is equally comfortable in the middle of the field, on the right wing, or up as a forward and is a great fit in an Arsenal side already full of attacking talent.

He was born in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg, he signed for his hometown club as a youth but began his playing days at their “farm” club, Zenit-2, in the Russian second division. He was promoted to the first team in the 2000 season and made his debut, at this point a right-sided midfielder.

Internationally the Russian plays a pivotal role for Guus Hiddink’s side. He was one of the key players in Russia’s run in last summer’s Euro tournament where he attracted the attention of Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
